Nandi hills ward County Assembly representative has vowed to fight for the establishment of a strong Community Social Responsibility (CSRs) by multinationals based in Nandi County. He was speaking during an interview at a local radio station.

Mr Koech insisted that it was prudent for these multinationals to clearly state the amount of money they've set aside to help improve the lives of the locals. "The lands belong to the locals, it is only logical if the companies set aside some of their profits towards improvement of the living standards of the local community." He said.

The Nandi Hills ward representative who also doubles up as the Chair of the implementation committee in the Nandi County Assembly, tabled a motion in the assembly that focused on CSRs. The motion was passed paving way for the executive to come up with a draft Bill.

"I've been told that the CEC finance is in the process of drafting a bill on the same. As a representative of the people, I am keenly following on the issue and would share the same with my electorates as soon as I receive more information pertaining the bill." Said Koech.

Nandi Hills ward is home to a number of Multinationals which grow and process tea. However, there hasn't been any law that governs how these companies share their profits with the locals. This is what necessitated the introduction of the motion by the MCA.

"We want the people to benefit from the proceeds of these plantations. We shall compel each company to clearly state the amounts they've set aside for CSR purposes to foster accountability." Said the MCA.

The MCA also touched on the projects ongoing in his ward. He said that some roads were being upgraded, he also noted that services at the Nandi Hills Hospital were gradually improving. He said that a contractor had been identified and that soon there will be a complete overhaul of the hospital to a tune of 7million shillings which is aimed at improved services at the sub county hospital.

He also thanked the people of Nandi Hills ward for being vigilant and acting as the watchdogs, closely monitoring the progress of the ongoing projects. He said that he will continue serving the people of Nandi hills diligently.
