Alfred Koech: Why I Am Passionate About Education and Sports

Alfred Koech also known as Alfed Sergeant is the new sensation in Nandi. The young athlete who is based in Perth Australia comes from Mosoriot in Nandi county and is currently pursuing his academic journey at the Edith Cowan University.

His journey began from humble begginings back at his home. He came from a poor struggling family like most of the households in Nandi. This however did not dampen his resolve to live a better life. He struggled to alleviate himself from the shackles of poverty.

The soft spoken, well groomed athlete insists that it doesn't really matter where one comes from. He says that all that matters is the commitment one harbors that will eventually make them succeed.

Mr Koech is the brand ambassador Edith Cowan University a position he says he will use to connect students from Kenya to the institution.

He is also the Executive Director Landson Foundation. This organization largely focuses on empowering young athletes through nurturing their talents and ensuring that they successfully pursue their education too.

The foundation which is headquartered in Nandi is in the process of setting up a training center for athletes. This the director says will serve the purpose of hosting the young athletes for training camps. "Instead of sending our athletes to Iten which is an expensive venture for us, we want to build our own training camp well equipped to handle our athletes in-house." Said Alfred.

"We want to ensure that we offer the best for our athletes. We know the value of great sportsmanship and the value attached to quality training facilities." He added.

Mr Koech has stated that he is focused on ensuring that young talented individuals who want to grow their sporting careers while at the same time grow in their academic spheres are given a chance to do so. " Education can never be ignored, it is through education that I am where I am today. I want to give an opportunity to those young minds back at home to get to where I am and excell even further." He said.

Politics
Mr Koech says that at the moment he isn't interested in politics. He says that he's focused on his education and empowering the community. Asked on why he was being seen with many political figures lately, he said that he was doing so as he was focused on building a solid network that would see his organization grow and recognized beyond the Kenyan borders.

"Every aspects of our life is political, it is through politics that we are able to come up with policies that are geared towards improvement of the society. I am creating a formidable network that would benefit our organization and the young men and women who are supported by this organization." He said.

I believe that the youth have what it takes to be what they want. I urge every one to strongly believe in themselves and they'll be successful. Work hard, work smart and never give up no matter the situations you might find yourself in.
