President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have affirmed that they won the elections fair and square despite the supreme court ruling that was passed on Friday. Speaking to members of the public, the duo expressed their dissatisfaction on the manner in which the verdict by the court was passed without proper consideration of the facts.
"We won the elections by over one million votes, a clear indicator of how the public has a firm belief on our transformation agenda," said the visibly agitated president. He was speaking during a meet the people tour in Nakuru over the weekend where they pledged to respect the court ruling.
On his part, the deputy president William Ruto urged the public to remain calm as they prepare for a round two defeat of the opposition. "This coming polls isn't about defeating NASA, its about dealing with the judiciary which committed a civilian coup by subverting the will of the people." Said Ruto.
The historic ruling by Chief Justice Maraga and his bench has been hailed and critiqued by the opposing camps with each side sticking to the side that favored them. The polls are expected to be conducted within the stipulated sixty days.
"We shall defeat them, we are aiming for 70+1% this time round. We want to do away with the perennial losers once and for all." Said Ruto. "Let the IEBC set the poll dates soonest that we can move on as a country," he reiterated.
The country is expecting a major political showdown between the two antagonists with each side confident of a win.
