That William Ruto is the defacto leader of the Kalenjin nation is a fact that cannot be disputed. The recently concluded polls are a clear indicator that he is a force to reckon with in the nation. He was charged with the various defection that were mostly seen from western, coast and the eastern part of this country.

He is a combative politician who is not afraid of any form of controversy. Once he sets his eyes on a target, then he must get it. That he played an important role in the re-election of president Uhuru Kenyatta is a fact that cannot be disputed.

The 2022 factor

William Ruto will be going for the top seat after president Uhuru's second term elapses in 2022. From the just concluded polls,  it is evident that he'll be the best placed person for that seat. He'll have the advantage of incumbency over his competitors most of whom have been rendered toothless after they lost various elective seats.

Peter Kenneth, Peter Munya, Evans Kidero, Kalonzo Musyoka who are among the possible contenders for the presidency in 2022 have been thrown out of their political offices. It is from these offices that they were to launch their presidential ambitions. However, this shouldn't be construed to mean that they can't make a come back. It will all depend on how they handle their losses.

Why Kalenjins should rally behind Ruto

It is important for the kalenjin nation to rally behind Ruto since it is only through this that they'll be able to have an even better bargaining power come 2022. Ruto is a national figure who is able to bring together people from all walks of life and from every region in the country.

Hon. Gideon Moi
"If we go into the 2022 polls as a divided house,  then chances are that we won't be able to have a greater impact in the national political arena," says John Kipchirchir a political analyst.

What should Ruto do?

Ruto should focus on uniting the kalenjin leadership. This he should do as soon as yesterday. Before embarking on making external forrays, he should ensure that his house is in order. Kanu leader and Baringo county senator Hon. Gideon Moi, Chama cha Mashinani leader Isaac Rutto and all the leaders from the entire Rift valley should be given a chance to be heard.

After all is said and done, one fact stands out; Ruto is going for the top seat. The concluded polls have only served to strengthen his political stature. He is now the most probable candidate to replace Uhuru Kenyatta when his term comes to an end.
