Yesterday July 7 2017 saw the ground breaking ceremony
of the Africa Economic Zone in Uasin Gishu County. The event was graced by the deputy president William Ruto together with a host of North Rift leaders.
The Africa Economic Zone Pearl River is located in Plateau, Kesses Sub county and is the first to be established in the country under the Special Economic Act 2015.

The project is a brain child of the Nandi prominent business man David Lagat. During the occasion, he told the attendees that it took him three years to convince the Chinese to take up the investment.
Guangdong New South Group Limited signed the deal worth 200 billion shillings in Beijing in the presence of H.E Uhuru Kenyatta in a private sector agreement. It is a partnership between the chinese firm and Kenya's Africa Economic Zone LTD. This agreement will see the development and operation of a high end economic zone.
Why Uasin Gishu?
Its proximity to agricultural raw materials and the massive land space in the region is what attracted the investors to the region. Routed as the most progressive privately owned investment, it will be of massive benefits to the locals.
More jobs
The investment is estimated to create 40000 direct jobs and approximately 150000 indirect jobs in the entire North Rift region making it a great boost to the economy of the region.

Speaking at the event, Nandi jubilee gubernatorial nominee Stephen Sang assured the investors of a condusive environment to do business in the region. He hailed the jubilee administration for creating a favorable atmosphere for business to thrive in the country.

Speaking at the event as the guest of honor, the deputy president assured the investors of the government's commitment towards creating favorable grounds for businesses to flourish in the country. "The project is part of jubilee's commitments towards increased foreign direct investments in the country." Said Ruto

The project will consist of various industries in agro processing, energy, machinery, engineering, construction, electronic, ICT, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
