Business man Buzeki has taken an early lead on the hotly contested gubernatorial race in Uasin Gishu county. According to a poll released by infotrak agency, Buzeki leads by 54.2% while Mandago who is the incumbent and the jubilee flag bearer has a 42.1% following.

Political observers and commentators from the region have predicted a neck to neck contest in that seat. Mr Mandago trounced Mr Buzeki during the party primaries that were held in April prompting Mr Buzeki to come back in the race as an independent candidate.

Mr Mandago is said to enjoy support from the indeginous communities, while Mr Buzeki is said to enjoy support from the migrants who have settled in the county.

Effects of the rivalry on the presidential vote

Some quotas have intimated that the strong rivalry will have a positive impact on jubilee's fortunes in the region. It has been said that it would result in larger voter turn out compared to counties such as Nandi that have no steep competition for the governor's seat.  Being routed as a jubilee stronghold, a larger voter turn out would mean that jubilee will bag more votes.
