Abraham Mutwol, he vied for the senate position in Uasin Gishu county on a jubilee ticket in the recently concluded primaries. He emerged fifth out of the fourteen candidates. He speaks to Nandi News

The recently concluded party primaries left most aspirants down and out. However, Abraham Kipyego Mutwol would take none of that!

The career teacher, from Uasin Gishu county, Segero Barsombe ward vied for the senate seat Uasin Gishu county on the promise of better allocation and protection of resources. His manifesto was mainly focused on the youth agenda and agriculture as a means where counties can be self sustainable.

Tarmacking allowance

In his manifesto, Mr Mutwol had promised to introduce a tarmacking allowance bill for the youths above 18 years who are unemployed or under employed. He told Nandi news that his actions were inspired by South African legislators who had introduced and passed the same bill in their country, where unemployed youths are now entitled to an equivalent of twenty thousand shillings as a means of sustaining them during job searching.

On Agriculture

"It is disturbing that Kenyan farmers are amongst the poorest, yet agriculture forms the backbone of our economy," said Mr Mutwol. "I had formulated a comprehensive bill to table at the senate that would have addressed the challenges faced by the farmers," he said. "To improve maize production in our country, I believe we could do so if we successfully addressed the cost of production."

"In the Maputo declaration of 2005, the United Nation urged member states of the developing countries to set aside 12% of their national budgets towards agriculture." "In Kenya going by the latest budgetary figures, it would translate to about 250 billion shillings which would then make a great impact interms of lowering the production costs." He told Nandi News.

I will be on the ballot come 2022

Having garnered over 9000 votes in the just concluded primaries, Mr Mutwol has vowed to be on the ballot in 2022. "I believe that my vision for the people of Uasin Gishu remains steadfast." "I will be on the ballot in 2022 to ensure that this vision comes to fruition."
