Nandi residents optimistic that Sang will win the fight against graft

Sang at a past event

Nandi county residents are optimistic that the incoming leadership led by senator Sang the jubilee governor nominee, will do a great job in the fight against graft. This is according to a random poll conducted by our correspondents where we sought the opinions of the electorates on whether they thought that Stephen Sang would be able to fight the deep rooted graft in Nandi.

In the poll conducted between 25-26th may 2017 where about 500 respondents were interviewed, Nandi news sought the views of these respondents on whether they believe that Sang is capable of fighting the cancerous corruption that has engulfed Nandi county.

80 percent of the respondents were positive that Sang would deliver and win on this fight. 15 percent felt that he was unable to win the fight while 5 percent chose to adopt the wait and see stance.

Sang who is a first time legislator at the senate, surprised many after edging out a number of very well connected politicians including the incumbent governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat, former Agriculture minister Felix Koskei and a long time experienced politician Henry Kosgey to emerge victorious as a flag bearer in the Nandi jubilee gubernatorial seat following the primaries that were held last Month.

Recently, he has been vocal on the need to fight graft that has threatened to halt essential services in the county. According to Sang, his main agenda will be to ensure that the cartels are dealt with and deprived off any room to thrive in Nandi. He has promised the residents that public money that had found its way into some few individuals pockets will get back into the county's coffers.

In a sting operation carried out by officers of the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission recently, 5.7million shillings was recovered from a high ranking officer of Nandi county government. Sources have intimated that Senator Sang played a major role in the events that led to the recovery of the loot. However, this cannot be fully substantiated by our correspondents.

What we know is that Sang enjoys an unequivocal support from a majority of the residents and they believe that he is capable of dealing with the cartels that had sought refuge in Nandi. Whether he will be able to use this support to his advantage or not will be determined once he ascends to power after the August polls.
