"I am not the Deputy governor designate," Jacob Tanui

Over the past few weeks, the name Jacob Tanui has been resonating around the Nandi political sphere. The vibrant politician who played a key role as the chair of the tuga tai movement campaign team has been the most synonymous figure after Stephen Sang in the recently concluded jubilee primaries in which Stephen Sang edged out his political rivals.

Speculation had it that he was poised to be the running mate of Mr Sang. Until recently his name had been floated as the only pick for the number two county seat. This however is not the case!

According to an official communication from Mr Tanui and his team, the deputy governor position has been set aside for a woman from Mosop Subcounty. On his official Facebook page, Mr Tanui sought to clarify the issue by putting up a statement.

"With regards to the deputy governor position, and in line with the Tuga tai manifesto, I would love to clearly state that the deputy governor position has been set aside for a lady from mosop." He stated. "This is to show the commitment and the zeal with which our incoming governor Hon. Sang prioritizes and cherishes gender issues," said Mr Tanui when we sought a comment from him.

Mr Tanui who has been viewed by many as an insider and a confidant to Mr Sang, has assured the residents from his Mosop backyard who overwhelmingly voted for Mr Sang that they will be well represented in the new regime that is to take office after the August general elections.

"In due time, the governor elect will name his deputy, and it won't be me or any other man, but it will be a lady full of experience and expertise in governance and administration." Jacob Tanui.

Mr Sang is expected to name his choice for a running mate in due course.

Choosing a woman as his Running Mate is a sign of mature politics. It's time that we believe woman in leadership.I salute and echoed Hon Sang that we are duly behind his Back. Hon Tanui has his part to play.

I must also commend this gallant group for the conceptualisation of this new idea that indeed resonated so well amongst all ages during the just concluded jubilee nominations. Everyone is encouraged by the mix in this group and motivated by the perceived humility of the entire crop of new leaders. In essence some mood is developing among the people that probably their problems shall not be leadership oriented.now and in the near future. I have no doudt that this message shall survive until the ext general elections. I am also joining all those who shall ensure we stay course and ensure our county enjoys the great leap forward because if its people, it's resources and the commitment of leaders. Keep up the spirit and stay undivided. Amb Stephen Kipkiyeny Tarus
