Are Nandi residents over optimistic in their new leadership?

Opinion

After the recently concluded primaries, the Nandi electorate have been ecstatic about the new leadership they put in place. Most of the people have been overtly optimistic on the capabilities of the new crop of leaders to deliver Nandi from the chains of corruption, nepotism, cronyism and gross mismanagement of county resources.

As a governance expert, I feel the optimism could turn catastrophic to the electorate and the new crop of leadership. After the recently concluded primaries in which the voters made a rather bold statement with regards to their leadership, I would urge the new leaders to live up to their promises or face the same axe that befell the current regime.

For the incoming governor, I would advise thorough surgical procedure to rid the county off all the inefficient public servants who draw huge amounts of salaries from the public coffers with little to show for their pay. Conduct an audit on all the employees to ascertain their competence and get rid of all the ghost workers.

The governor also needs to employ a vibrant communication team, to ensure that the county is in constant communication with the people. The previous regime erred on this front. It was impossible for anyone to access information on the ongoing and yet to be commissioned projects making it hard for anyone to know whether the government was working or not.

For effective legislation, the governor should work hand in hand with the county assembly avoiding the underhand dealings that characterized the outgoing regime which made it impossible for any meaningful bills to be passed. It is from this point that any county government could be chocked before takeoff.

The people have so much hope in the incoming regime. It is up to them to ensure that they serve the residents diligently without any fear or favor. Mr Sang has the support of the electorate and should make good use of this to ensure that Nandi is elevated to the heights it deserves to be in. Thank you.
